School for Advance Studies
Our goal is to promote student achievement and develop critical, independent, and creative thinkers. Our program is enriched and accelerated with gifted and high achievers clustered in classrooms. Instruction is differentiated to provide students with complex and challenging curriculum involving grade and across grade level collaboration. Our teachers receive specialized training in differentiating instruction and implementing parallel curriculum.
Arts
Our program incorporates a variety of strategies for securing a sequential, comprehensive, standard-based arts education for all students in all classrooms in all arts form. Our students receives dance, music, theater and/or visual arts lessons. Our goal is to help our students develop creative intelligence that encourages communication of ideas and feelings through images, sound and movement.
Literacy
California Treasures Reading Program is aligned to national and state standards. The curriculum, created specifically for California, is grounded in science-based research. Our goal is to provide opportunities for our students to engage in reading, writing, listening and speaking. This program has been the primary focus in our school. In order to enrich our literacy program our staff has sought to innovative strategies to improve in the areas of Writing and Reading Comprehension. We are experiencing tremendous growth in writing and we are encouraging students to read more and improve comprehension via incorporating the Accelerated Reader Program.
Math
Rio Vista offers a rigorous Math program based upon the California State Standards. With the adoption of enVision Math California, a program centered on conceptual development and problem-solving skills, students will be exposed to algebraic concepts as early as Kindergarten.
Technology
Our students are exposed to a variety of technology-based activities integrated into the curriculum and school environment. By integrating technology into classroom, we aim to enhance students’ exploratory experience through cooperative learning and/or peer-collaboration. Classroom computers, mobile laptops cart with 30 laptops, document cameras, scanners and projectors are available to help students complete any given learning tasks and projects.
